Where we represent you

  • Area SEND Leadership Board
This is a new group convened by the Director of Children’s Services (DCS), with membership including County Council officers, Health, NASSH, Educate Norfolk, Family Voice Norfolk, Schools Forum, Public Health and NGN. SEND is a priority for the DCS since she has identified that there is not at present clear sign up from the whole area to “enable joint working on strategic common goals and establishing commitment to deliver on the requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014”. A second compelling reason for setting up the new Group to establish joined up cohesive working is that there is a new Ofsted/ Care Quality Commission (CQC) joint inspection framework to test how the 2014 statutory changes are working in a place. The inspection framework will be used by the Group as a starting point to understand what improvement work is required in Norfolk.
  • Joint Chairs Meeting
The Joint Chairs meeting is every two months. It is chaired by Chis Snudden, Assistant Director, Education at the County Council and members are NASHH, Educate Norfolk, Schools Forum and NGN.
Main topics of discussion at recent meetings has been: the challenge of inclusion and the rising numbers of exclusions; and SEND and the new arrangements that have been put in place over the summer.
The Director of Children’s Services has invited the joint Chairs Group to meet regularly with her and her Leadership Team and the first of those meetings took place in the summer term. This is one of several practical demonstrations of her commitment to engaging with schools and is very encouraging
  • Norfolk Schools Forum
The Norfolk Schools Forum is an important statutory body which makes decisions on certain school funding issues and, at times, must be consulted by the Local Authority on other funding decisions. It is vital that governors are fully represented on this influential body.
