There are two important changes to be aware of. Firstly, the Headteacher’s work/life balance. Regulation 5 extends the governing body’s duty to have regard to the worklife balance of the headteacher with the following sentence: - “the governing body must have regard to the desirability of the head teacher being able to achieve a satisfactory balance between the time spent discharging the professional duties of a head teacher and the time spent by the head teacher pursuing personal interests outside work.”

With regard to Safer Recruitment Regulation 9 makes it compulsory for all interview panels from 1 January 2010 to contain one person who has completed the Safer Recruitment training.
