Have you ever wondered how big your school buildings should really be?
Well here are a couple of articles you may find useful -
- Building Bulletin 98: Briefing Framework for Secondary School Projects
- Building Bulletin 99: Briefing Framework for Primary Projects
These documents set out in quite a lot of detail how large your school buildings would be if you were building your school from scratch for a given number of pupils. This includes classroom space but also things like hall space, staff toilets and even cleaners' cupboards!
There are also some worked examples on teachernet
And if you're wondering how much that might all cost then there's an interesting report here which identifies that
- Building Schools for the Future projects average £1850 per square metre
- Academies phase 1 buildings averaged £2240 per square metre
Hope you find that useful.
